There is no public confirmation that Perplexity uses llms.txt as a retrieval input. Perplexity relies on its own crawl and index (PerplexityBot) plus live fetches (Perplexity-User). Treat llms.txt as a bonus source map, not a Perplexity channel.

What actually drives Perplexity citations

• Crawlable, quotable pages that directly answer the query.
• Allowed PerplexityBot and Perplexity-User.
• Discovery via links and user queries — Perplexity has no submission tool.

So should you skip llms.txt?

No — it is cheap and gives editorial control over the pages you highlight. But your Perplexity visibility comes from fundamentals, not the file.
